| Shadowfang Farming Many have tried it, even more have despaired. What will your story be? |
Farming Shadowfang Keep
Like the name may give you a hint, Shadowfang drops only in one place, the Shadowfang Keep. Unlike most BOEs, this has been dropping from bosses only. Sadly, there's only 5 bosses here. Each have a low 0.01% ish chance to drop the
Shadowfang. That means there's a 0.05% chance to get it per run. The drop rate is not confirmed so it may be 0.03% instead.The bosses also drop other BOE rares, like
Duskbringer. These are not nearly as valuable though, but at least you may see other items drop as well.You should also keep in mind that the instance limit is 5 instances per hour, so it's not very efficient to farm it. Thankfully the mobs drop
Wool Cloth quite a bit here, so if it's valuable on your realm, it maybe a good excuse to clear the instance a few times!Farming the Auction House
Since it's more likely to win in lottery than to see Shadowfang drop from a boss, it's pointless to farm it unless you have nothing better to do. But do not despair! Many have obtained this in seconds simply by visiting the auction house, including me. I've found it twice total and managed to get about 100k gold for it. The other I found before WOTLK so it obviously didn't sell for as much. These days people have a lot more gold to spend!
Even now it's likely that there's someone selling it for silly amounts! Better to visit the Auction House!

I am honestly still at a loss as to why people would pay such extraordinary amounts for this item.
I know it's very rare, but other than that, what is it honestly good for?
Level 19 twink weapon? Is the bracket still that big to warrant this investment?
Mog item? It looks very average at best!
Whilst TUJ data does report a very strong 200k+ average across all realms, I think it has to be said this item (whilst profitable) is very over priced for what it really represents in game. I get the impression much of it's current value is more speculative than anything
Good question! I wouldn't pay even 500g for it, but then again I don't like "twinking".
It's the best in slot for a level 19 rogue, so I don't see why someone that is not able to kill equally geared toons wouldn't pay all they can for such an item.
Some people just enjoy one shotting players.
I agree with you guys, Especially when the BOA's offer better stats. I did find Blade of wizardy on the AH for 200g a week ago. Sold for 20k. Also found Teebu's blazing sword for 5k. Am waiting for the expansion to sell it. Will probably put up for 120k and see who bites.
Well, Teebu's might not sell as well depending on how common the updated one drops in MoP (yep, new BoE Teebu's in MoP)
