Best places to farm Volatile Fire - WoW Gold Guide

I've been asked why there's no farming tips for all the Cataclysm Volatiles. The answer is simple: Volatile Fire and Earth is not nearly as profitable to farm as the other two, Volatile Water and Volatile Air on almost every realm. However, there might be stockpiling potential!

There's a few mini gold tips coming via twitter. Simply keep an eye on the twitter feed on this page, or follow me.

volatile fire farming
Volatile Fire may not be the most valuable Volatile currently, but give it some time!

May not be worth farming. Check prices!
Like most Volatiles, also Volatile Fire has a fairly low drop rate of 10-18%, depending on where you are farming. These are not the most valuable Cataclysm Volatiles, so make sure you check their prices before farming. You can usually make more gold by farming Volatile Air instead.

Here's the ways you can make gold with Volatile Fire!

Instances
There's no point farming instances for Volatile Fire.

Stockpiling
All Cataclysm Volatiles are time consuming to farm, and on top of that people will be focusing on the new "Volatiles" instead once Mists Of Pandaria is here. This could very well mean that a single Volatile Fire may go for even 20g once people start to run out of it. This same happened with Northrend "Volatiles". It's a good idea to throw these into your bank instead.

Seeing as Volatile Fire is almost free these days on some realms, it's also safe to buy a few hundred of these from the Auction House.

Professions
Volatile Fire can be obtained by Fishing. These can be fished from "Pools of Fire" in some fiery regions in Mount Hyjal and Twilight Highlands.

It can also be obtained from Mining nodes in Cataclysm zones. Pyrite and Elementium nodes awards the most Volatile Fire.

Alchemists can also perform the Living Elements Transmute, which turns Volatile Life into other elements, such as Fire. To create Volatile Fire, you must be in Mount Hyjal when transmuting.

Farming outside
This is always the most favored farming style. Killing monsters is easy and fast. Since Firelands patch was released, the absolutely best farming spots are in Molten Front, no surprise there! There's rarely any competition there either these days.

Kuja's Protip: Don't forget to drink a Potion of Treasure Finding before killing anything!

Top-3 Farming Spots
Here's the Top-3 all time favourite (Non-elite) mobs for Volatile Fire farming! All of these monsters have a 14% chance of dropping 1-3 x Volatile Fire

Ok.. makes sense to possibly stockpile volatile fire, since there is the possibility of the price going up. But to me, it doesn't make sense to actually go out and farm it - you can always do that once the price is up, so why spend the time now on something that is not yet realized?

Ok. It might make sense to stockpile volatile fire, since there is the possibility that the price might go up, and if you buy it now, then you'd be paying less gold than it might be in the future.

But it does not make sense to actually go out and farm it; you can do that once Volatile Fire has actually gone up, and not now, when there is a potential for it to bomb. The time you spend farming it now and the time you spend farming it later will be somewhat the same, so you don't "earn" anything by doing it early. In fact, its probably a losing proposition, since you've just taken on the extra risk of Volatile Fire not going up.

Lol at Celedor's triple post, but his comments make sense. If the stuff is going on the AH at liquidation prices, you'd be silly to go actively farm for these things right now. You're better off buying them cheap off the AH for flipping down the road.
